In 2014, the Niagara Parks Commission called for proposals for new lighting technology to replace the aging xenon short-arc bulbs that had been in operation since 1997. Stanley, Canadian lighting agent Salex, and three other companies established a consortium to submit a proposal, which was accepted in March 2016. Installation of the new system was completed in November 2016.

The project was made possible with the collaboration of a local Canadian lighting agent, system equipment manufacturer, installation work manufacturer, and design engineer.

Illuminating the falls from 1 km away with a single 20W floodlight

The distance from the lighting system to its target, Niagara Falls, was almost 600 meters at its furthest point, but Stanley's LED Floodlight with Ultra Narrow Light Angle was able to meet the required specifications, including intensity and consistency, with optical lenses based on our advanced optical design cultivated in the development of automobile headlamps.
The track record we have built up with our automotive exterior products was highly commended in terms of the reliability and safety standards required for use in harsh winter conditions. Stanley's LED Floodlights, whose luminous efficacy has been improved by optical design, achieved significant energy savings of around 60%(*2) compared with the power consumption of the 4kW xenon arc bulbs used in the previous lighting system. According to preliminary calculations by the Niagara Parks Commission, the Stanley's floodlight will have a life span of more than 20 years. The xenon bulbs used combinations of colored filters in four colors to express different colors, but the LED Floodlight can product more than 16.77 million color combinations through layering and dimming of the four colors, making new dramatic color effects possible.

American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls combined are approximately 330 meters wide with a drop of approximately 58 meters. Canadian Falls, meanwhile, is approximately 675 meters wide, with a drop of 56 meters. The furthest point from the lighting system to the falls is 600 meters. Given the huge size of the falls being illuminated, it is extremely difficult to light up them from such long distance.
