We have revised our business classifications in relation to two categories with the changes to take effect starting from the current first quarter consolidated accounting period. The first of those categories is accessories and device products (previously included in the electronic components business), which were moved to the automotive equipment business. Products utilizing ultraviolet light, or UV (previously included within the electronic components business), were moved to the applied electronic products business.
The following year-on-year comparisons have been made based on figures produced using the revised segment categories for the same period of the previous fiscal year.


Automotive Equipment Business

The main products in this segment are automotive and two-wheeled vehicle lamps. The trend in related markets was of a global increase in automobile production volume. Although motorcycle production decreased slightly in Japan and China, there was a slight increase seen on a global basis due to increases taking place in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. In this market environment, our group's automotive equipment business saw increases in both automotive and two-wheeled vehicle lamps in line with the growth in automobile and motorcycle production. As a result, sales of the automotive equipment business during the current consolidated cumulative first quarter were 92,733 million yen (up 25.5% from the previous fiscal year) and operating profits were 3,355 million yen (up 89.4% from the previous fiscal year).

Electronic Components Business

The main products in this segment are LEDs and LCDs. Related markets showed trends of increases in the on-board equipment and LED lighting markets, while the AV consumer electronics market remained flat. While in this market environment automobile production volume has been recovering, our group's electronic components business saw a decrease in on-board LEDs due to the impact of inventory adjustments made by customers. The business was also affected by sharp rises in procurement costs for parts and other items. As a result, sales in the electronic components business for the current consolidated cumulative first quarter were 9,324 million yen (down 1.5% from the previous fiscal year) and operating profits were 345 million yen (down 67.0% from the previous fiscal year).

Applied Electronic Products Business

The main products in this segment include LCD backlights, control panels, LED lighting, and electronic substrates. Related markets showed trends of decreases in the OA market, slight decreases in the PC and tablet markets, and increases in the on-board interior market and LED lighting market. In this market environment, our group's applied electronic products business was affected by an increase in the number of electronic substrates and panel products used for things such as the control of automotive lamps, which resulted from the increase in automobile production volume seen in comparison with the consolidated cumulative first quarter of the previous year. Meanwhile, the business was affected by a decrease in LCD backlights and inventory adjustments made by our customers, as well as by sharp rises in procurement costs for parts and other items. As a result, sales in the applied electronic products business for the current consolidated cumulative first quarter were 25,794 million yen (up 5.8% from the previous fiscal year) and operating profits were 1,739 million yen (down 21.5% from the previous fiscal year).
