Automobile production volume increased worldwide overall, with increases in Japan, the Americas, Europe, and Asia, despite a decrease in China. Two-wheeled vehicle production volume increased worldwide in Japan, the Americas, Europe, Asia and China. Given this market environment, the group's automotive equipment business was impacted by the worldwide increased sales and production volume of automobiles and two-wheeled vehicles on account of the recovery from the impact of COVID-19, and the increase in automotive and two-wheeled vehicle headlamps has also led to increased income and profit. As a result, sales for the automotive equipment business for this first-quarter consolidated cumulative period were 74,605 million yen (up 66.3% from the same period of the previous year), and operating profits were 4,344 million yen (compared to a loss of 2,032 million yen for the same period of the previous year). By applying revenue recognition accounting standards, we posted an increase in sales of 21 million yen and decrease in operating profits of 8 million yen.

As for markets related to this segment (whose main products are LEDs, liquid crystal displays, etc.), namely, the on-board equipment market, LED lighting market, and amusement market saw growth, while the AV home appliance market saw slight growth. Given this market environment, the group's components business saw increased income and profit due to the increase in automotive LEDs, liquid crystal displays, and automotive bulbs because of the impact of increased automotive production volume worldwide. As a result, sales for the components business for this first-quarter consolidated cumulative period were 11,958 million yen (up 72.1% from the same period of the previous year), and operating profits were 1,361 million yen (also up 1,087.2%). By applying revenue recognition accounting standards, we posted an increase in sales of 40 million yen and increase in operating profits of 15 million yen.

Given this market environment, our group's applied electronics business was able to post increases in income and profit due to growth in electronic substrates used in the control of LED lamps, automotive operation panels, and OA panels. As a result, sales for the applied electronics business for this first-quarter consolidated cumulative period were 23,604 million yen (up 35.1% from the same period of the previous year), and operating profits were 2,430 million yen (also up 17.2%). By applying revenue recognition accounting standards, we posted an increase in sales of 22 million yen and increase in operating profits of 2 million yen.
