Stanley products and functions contributing to traffic safety
- AFS(Adaptive Front-lighting System)/ADB(Adaptive Driving Beam)
-
AFS is a system to swivel the light to match the steering angle in order to improve the view in the front direction when a driver is driving on a bend. Through the development of ADB, we target further enhancing the view during nighttime.
ADB is an image-recognition camera system, which detects preceding or approaching vehicles. The light of the high beam is partially blocked out to help prevent dazzling the driver of oncoming cars.
Thanks to this function, it enables more information necessary for driving such as information of range, pedestrians on the shoulder of a road and signposts and it is possible to drive with a high beam-like view when another car is in front.

- LED headlamps
-
LED headlamps realize brightness equivalent to HID (high intensity discharge) headlamps, have irradiation distribution design of light that irradiates the necessary range at optimal brightness and are eco-friendly with power consumption of about 2/3 that of HID lamps.
In addition to environmental friendliness, LED headlamps can offer lamplight with high visibility when compared with conventional light sources, contributing to enhanced safety.
- Auto leveling
-
Auto leveling is an adjustment system in which the irradiation direction of headlamps is maintained in a constant direction even if the posture angle is changed depending on the riding condition. Thanks to this function, glare against oncoming cars can be prevented, while optimal irradiation distribution is provided for drivers.
- Night view system/side view system
-
The night view system visualizes traffic conditions out of the irradiation range of the lamps by taking advantage of near infrared beams. The side view system offers the information of vision at the sides of automobiles that are in dead angles from the driver, supporting safe driving. In each system, Stanley's infrared beam units and LEDs contribute to expanding the vision of drivers.

- Headlamp cleaner
-
The headlamp cleaner is a device to clean dust and dirt on the lens surface of the headlamp. This prevents blinding light for oncoming cars caused by dirty lens surface and secures front vision for the driver.
- DRL(Daytime Running Lamps)
-
Daytime running lamps are always lit, enhancing visibility from surrounding cars and pedestrians. With better recognition of the car's presence, it contributes to safety.

Stanley's initiatives for human factors, contributing to traffic safety
Human factors is a method of studying human physical properties (such as psychological and physiological properties), and design products and systems that are precise, safe, and easy to operate.
We have addressed human factors regarding light (vision) and reflected the results upon our products.
Thanks to safety research regarding reduced risk of rear-end collisions by LED stop lamps jointly conducted by the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, LED stop lamps were mounted in a vehicle for the first time in the world in 1989. In addition, through the development of optimal illumination distribution of headlamps and AFS (Adaptive Front-lighting System), we realized a safe and easy-to-run driving environment with improved visibility and reduced glare.
We continue to pursue safety and easiness-to-use to contribute to realizing a safe and secure society.
